People Moving & Handling

ISM Training will train your staff in the safe lifting and moving of individuals. This training aims to demonstrate to all participants the correct method used to handle and move patients (elderly/incapacitated) in a safe and comfortable manner, thus preventing any spinal injuries.

Our tutor is fully compliant with current Health and Safety legislation, SHW at Work (General App) Regulations 2007, Part 2 Workplace and Work Equipment, Chapter 4 “Manual Handling of Loads” and Amendment Regulations 2007.

It is a requirement for all healthcare staff and care assistants who engage in patient handling to be given training in safe lifting procedures.

Upon successful completion of this course participants will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to:

  • Explain their legal rights and responsibilities
  • Demonstrate how improper techniques can cause injury
  • Identify risk factors associated with patient handling
  • Apply the principles of safe lifting
  • Assess heavy or awkward loads
  • Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system
  • Conduct a risk assessment
  • Moving and handling of patients safely
