According to the European Transport Safety Council, between 2008 and 2012 almost 40% of deaths on Irish roads were linked to drink driving.
Yet while alcohol consumption in Ireland would, according to the OECD, appear to be falling there is no excuse whatsoever for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
The Irish School of Motoring particularly welcomes, therefore, the launch by the Road Safety Authority of http://www.drinkdriversdestroylives.ie/ – a new website dedicated to ending the scourge of drink driving on Irish roads.
This site serves not just to bring to the attention of the public key data on the extent and impact of drink driving in Ireland but also provides useful educational material which is meaningful and readily accessible.
As an organisation dedicated to improving road safety in Ireland is delighted to support this initiative. We welcome the role played by the RSA in this debate and stand ready to help however we can.
